Celebrating and Taking Action on International Women’s Day and Every Day

March 4, 2022

March 8th ~ a very special day. International Women’s Day.

A “global day celebrating the historical, cultural, and political achievements of women.”

But also a day “observed in support of taking action against gender inequality around the world.”

For the Concrete Industry in Ontario – this day is also about both Celebrating. And Taking Action.

It means celebrating how far we’ve come welcoming Women into the industry – providing women an environment and culture that supports success and rewarding careers working in ready-mixed concrete – and sharing their stories farther and wider so other women learn about the vibrant work-life possible in our industry.

And, it is also about getting connected to the women who are already in our industry – hearing their perspectives, their experiences, their thoughts on how we as an industry can continue to take action to offer an ever safer, healthier, unbiased, gender-equal workplace consistently where diverse teams can thrive.

One of the areas in the industry where we are hearing more and more positive growth stories for women, and which also presents a great opportunity to really move the bar for women is in the critical role of Concrete Delivery Professionals.

Depending on which statistic you look at, Women represent less than 5% of delivery professionals in trucking in all industries across the province.

To this end – Concrete Ontario is getting out in 2 ways to increase our understanding of what it is like for women in Concrete Delivery Professional roles:

  • An industry survey of existing women Concrete Delivery Professionals in the industry to get their thoughts on feedback on topics including Safety ~ Training/Onboarding ~ Support ~ Retention ~ Advice for other women, concrete companies, contractors with the goal to share this consolidated feedback to our members to help them make informed decisions and take action related to hiring and supporting Women CDPS.And
  • One-on-one interviews with Women who are actively working as Concrete Delivery Professionals today. To celebrate their success and share their stories and experiences to the benefit of so many.

There’s no more appropriate day than International Women’s Day for us to share the first of those interviews.
