Introduction to Provincial Concrete Pavements

January 28, 2021

The use of concrete pavements is becoming more and more common for Municipal projects. Concrete pavements are also being used by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) for provincial highways. Roadways such as Highway 407 and some sections of Highways 401 and 417 have exposed concrete pavements. The MTO has recently made several updates to the specification for concrete pavement and base to avoid premature joint deterioration, improve smoothness and use grooving rather than tining for final texturing. These changes have resulted in concrete pavements that are smoother and quieter.

This webinar focuses on the selection process for using concrete on provincial projects, current specification requirements and recent projects completed by the MTO across the province. Melissa Titherington, Head (acting), Concrete Section (MTO), is the presenter and the difference between municipal and provincial concrete pavements is showcased.
